The French pair return after bad light on Wednesday to seal victory

Ross Hutchins and Stephen Huss fell in their first match at the AEGON Championships, losing 7-5 6-2 to Michael Llodra and Julien Benneteau.

The No.8 seeds, who received a bye to the second round, were level at 4-4 with the Frenchmen when play ended late on Wednesday evening, but could not match their opponents’ intensity when they returned to court on Thursday afternoon.

Benneteau and Llodra made the most of their opportunities on Huss’ serve, breaking the Australian three times in succession to seal the first set and run away with the second. The French pair also came out on top in the majority of exchanges at the net at crucial times, covering the court well together.

Llodra and Benneteau will face Wes Moodie and Mikhail Youzhny in the quarter-finals, while Hutchins and Huss turn their attention to next week’s AEGON International in Eastbourne.
