Hutchins and Keothavong mix it up at SW19
Rosco and AK play mixed doubles at Wimbledon on Friday…
British tennis stars Ross Hutchins and Anne Keothavong will kick off their Wimbledon mixed doubles campaign on Friday against Brazilian Bruno Soares and Alisa Kleybanova of Russia.
Hutchins, the British No.1 doubles player, and world No.51 Keothavong played together in the event last year, but Wimbledon-born big server was forced to pull out of the event. “We played well last year,” he recalls, “but I got injured in the second round.
“It’ll be a lot of fun, and I think we can do well,” he added, before saying of Keothavong: “She hits the ball great.”
The British women’s No.1 has endured a torrid week in the press after her first-round exit from the singles event, but the Hackney-born 25-year-old is determined to make the most of her first Wimbledon appearance by right.
“The events of the last 48 hours don’t dampen my enthusiasm for wanting to get out there and play another match at Wimbledon,” she told her website. “This is the first time in my career that I’ve got into all three events on merit without the need for any wild cards and I’m proud of that.
“Soares I know plays lots of doubles and Kleybanova I’ve played before in doubles,” she added. “She’s a strong girl who gives it a whack so it’ll be a tough match. Hopefully the crowd can get behind me and Ross and we can do well.”
