Garcia-Lopez and Rochus recover from a set down in Flushing Meadows…

Ross Hutchins and Stephen Huss’ US Open campaign ended at the first hurdle with a 2-6 6-4 6-4 defeat at the hands of Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and Olivier Rochus at Flushing Meadows.

The Anglo-Aussie duo, No.15 seeds in the men’s doubles, got off to a great start, snapping up two break points at the first time of asking to race into a one-set lead before their opponents leveled the match.

The final set went with serve until game seven when Huss failed to hold his serve at the fourth time of asking, having saved three break points already in the game.

Belgian Rochus served out the next game to leave Hutchins serving to save the match at 5-3 down. Surviving a match point at deuce, the British No.1 held to force Garcia-Lopez to serve out the match.

Huss and Hutchins saved another match point on the Spaniard’s serve, but they could not save the third of the match.
