Hutchins and Murray confirmed for Davis Cup doubles
British doubles No.1 and world No.3 to face Poland
Andy Murray and Ross Hutchins have been confirmed as the doubles pair to face Poland in Liverpool, despite concerns of aggravating Murray’s wrist injury.
British doubles No.1 Hutchins had been lined up to play with either Murray or Colin Fleming against Marcin Matkowski and Mariusz Fyrstenberg in the Euro-Africa Zone I play-off.
Captain John Lloyd favoured pairing Murray and Hutchins, practice partners and Britain’s highest-ranked players against a formidable doubles pair.
Matkowski and Fyrstenberg are ranked No.11 in the world as a pair, and with the tie in the balance at 1-1 after the singles, Saturday’s rubber could prove crucial.
But concerns as to who would partner Hutchins arose after Murray again looked in discomfort during his 6-4 6-2 6-4 victory over Michal Przsiezny.
The Scot struggled with his double-handed backhand as his left wrist again ached, and afterwards Murray admitted to be playing on painkillers.
But with the tie in the balance following debutant Dan Evans’ 6-3 6-3 7-6(5) defeat to Jerzy Janowicz in the second rubber, Murray declared himself fit to play on Saturday, with every intention of playing again on Sunday in the reverse singles.
