Tough tie-break loss to No.3 seeds

Ross Hutchins and Jordan Kerr suffered a first-round defeat at the hands of No.3 seeds Frantisek Cermak and Michal Mertinak at the Valencia Open.

The Anglo-Aussie pair came off second-best after a hard-fought contest, losing 4-6 6-4 10-6 to the Czech-Slovakian duo.

Cermak and Mertinak remain in the hunt for a spot at the season-ending Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, and a strong showing in Valencia and next week in Paris will boost their chances.

Hutchins is now set to take a week off before joining up with Horia Tecau for Challenger events in Bratislava and Helsinki before the season’s end.
