Polish pair up first in Melbourne
Ross and Jordan face No.7 seeds in opener…
Ross Hutchins and Jordan Kerr face Marcin Matkowski and Mariusz Fyrstenberg in the first round of the Australian Open.
The Anglo-Aussie duo, playing their first Grand Slam event together, will play the No.7 seeds on Wednesday afternoon on Court 14 at Melbourne Park, with Hutchins desperate to “take them down” and book a place in the second round.
After reaching the final of the Sydney International last week with Kerr, Hutchins is ready for action ahead of his first encounter with the Polish duo since a Davis Cup alongside Andy Murray back in September.
“We’re feeling very good,” said the world No.47. “We’ve continued to have good practice sessions after last week.
“It’s been tough to train here with the wind and rain, but we feel ready and positive.”
And Hutchins knows that he and Kerr will need to be on top of their games to beat a team that debuted at the ATP World Tour Finals last November.
“It’s a tough match against a big-hitting team that have beaten me a couple of times in some close-run matches,” said Hutchins. “Tomorrow I’ll be doing my absolute best to take them down.”
With poor weather affecting the build-ups for many players, Hutchins has taken time to chill out ahead of the big event.
“I’ve been spending a lot of time in the apartment, relaxing and enjoying the tennis on TV.”
