Kohlmann and Niemenen downed in straight sets…

Ross Hutchins and Jordan Kerr are through to the semi-finals of the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships after beating Martin Kohlmann and Jarkko Niemenen 6-2 6-4.

The Anglo-Aussie duo raced away with the first set in impressive style, getting ahead early and although they were pegged back briefly when the German-Finnish pair broke back, but sealed the set with a third break of their own.

And after surviving a string of break points in game nine of the second, they stormed through the next game to steal a break and wrap up victory in just over an hour.

“We started very sharp,” admitted Hutchins, “and after getting ahead early, we served and returned well throughout.

“Once we saved those break points at 4-4 we broke strongly to win.”

Hutchins and Kerr face will face American wildcards Scott Lipsky and David Martin in the final four, and the British No.3 is taking nothing for granted.

“The semis will be tough, but we are playing well and feeling confident for Saturday,” he said.

“My hamstring has felt pretty strong,” he added. “Hours a day of gym work seems to be strengthening it!”
